Impetus Law and the Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration organised a workshop on ISDS sponsored by Mohammed Muigai LLP at the Laico Regency Hotel in Nairobi on the 27 August 2019. The workshop touched on “Initiating Arbitral Proceedings: How and Where to Start” and “Arbitration under Bilateral Investment Treaties: A Case Study of the Cortec Mining Kenya Limited & Others v. Republic of Kenya”.

Mr. Nikhil Desai, JMiles & Co Mr. Imende Geoffrey, Mohammed Muigai LLPMs. Njeri Kariuki, Njeri Kariuki Advocate, ICC Court Arbitrator, Mr. Ken Melly, IKM Advocates, Dr. Willy Mutunga,SC, EGH, Retired Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya and moderated by Lee Mutunga, Impetus Law, Mercy Okiro, Advocate, Arbitrator, Accredited Mediator and Tutor.
The workshop was a success as we shed light on instituting ISDS proceedings and some of the challenges in the current ISDS regime among other topics of importance.
The workshop was attended by Ms Martina Genova of Studio Legale Ghia, an Italian Firm upon an invitation from Impetus Law and Mr. Jacob Omorodion, the President of the Havard International Arbitration Law Students Association (HIALSA)
